CD Player

I need a new portable CD player. I dropped my current one on to the subway tracks and I am not risking my life for a $60 CD player that sucked anyway. The only problem is that I can’t find one with the same features.

What I want:
  • Ability to play MP3 CDs
  • and regular CDs with minimal skipping
  • FM and AM tuner
  • Reasonably sturdy construction

I love MP3 CDs since I can have a large music collection with me and only carry a few CDs, but I can still play regular CDs as well. The AM radio is necessary since I often listen on my way into work. I can pick up the AM band all the way into the subway station (for AM 820 WNYC). The FM station comes in with a fair amount of static on my walk in (FM 93.9 WNYC). I am willing to pay for these features.

You would think that with all of these technology options I could find what I want, but no. I had MP3 CDs and an AM tuner on my previous player, but as I said above, it sucked. It skipped on MP3s, had bad sound quality and had no ‘hold’ switch, meaning that I could bump the buttons if it was in my pocket. I believe it was a Memorex. I haven’t even found anything comparable in either Circuit City or at Amazon.com. I was considering getting an ipod since they are so beautiful and well designed, but it doesn’t have a radio. Also I think the price may drop or features may be added soon given how Apple seems to work.

Anyway I will report back once I get a CD player. I may have to skip the MP3 CD thing. I need it soon; I used it for both my morning commute and my car. It is one of the few electronic gadgets (other than my cell phone) that I take almost everywhere.
